|Visiting Dubbo Zoo|
Without doubt, the Dubbo Zoo is one of the most exhilarating spots for people of all ages. It was first inaugurated on 28th February, 1977. The Taronga Conservation Society heads the main authority of the zoo. Spread on the 300 hectare area, the lavish collection of 800 different animals from various parts of the world is something to behold and enjoy. Ranging from friendly and endangered species, the selection of animals includes giraffes, zebras, hippos, elephants, lions, cheetahs, white rhinoceros, Galapagos turtle, ring tailed lemurs, antelopes, echidnas, Bengal tiger and many more. The entire zone is visitor friendly and has a very open feel.
The Western Plains Zoo offers a slice of Africa, which introduces you the beauty of wildlife. The Zoo changed its name to Taronga Western Plains Zoo on 21st January, 2008. Its mission was to continue the work of the Taronga Conservation Society Australia.
Dubbo Zoo is an open range zoo, which means that the animals are spread out over a large area and you can use different modes of transport to see them. There is a 6km loop road that winds in and out of animal areas. You can drive through them in your car, or ride a bicycle or an electric cart. (You can hire bicycles and electric carts from the zoo). Many of the animal areas do not have enclosures, which means that you are really, really close!!!
The zoo has a special rule allowing you to browse through the zoo details for two consecutive days, on which your ticket will be valid. The most noticeable fact about the zoo is that it spreads over a whole range area, thus not giving you the unsightly barrier of fences and thick rods.
Visiting the zoo with your parents and grandparents is to become a cherished childhood memory.
At the end of a exciting day at the zoo, you will look forward to resting your tired bones at the Quality Inn Dubbo International which is located only 800 metres from the zoo.
